Starting university at 47 wasn’t part of the plan. Between raising two kids, navigating divorce, working part-time in a pub, and being “Gramps” to a biscuit-dropping granddaughter, life was already full. Yet this memoir proves that higher education isn’t reserved for the young — it’s for anyone brave (or stubborn) enough to hit apply and face three years of caffeine, deadlines, and self-doubt.

With humour and honesty, Late to Lecture charts the chaotic, inspiring journey of a middle-aged student stumbling into Freshers’ Week armed with ibuprofen instead of vodka shots. From deciphering online portals and surviving 9 a.m. lectures on four hours’ sleep, to group projects where “lit” doesn’t mean the lights are on, every chapter captures the clash of life experience and student life.
